Lavender is the classic bedtime scent: gentle, herbal and calming. Kinforse pours it into a petite ceramic owl, glazed in soft colour, so the candle is as pretty as it is fragrant — a little character for a bedside table, bathroom windowsill or bookshelf.

It is made with natural soy wax and aromatherapy essential oils, with a 100% lead-free wick that gives a cleaner, longer burn without black smoke. There is about 4.3 oz of wax, enough for many relaxing evenings.

How to get the most from a scented candle

A little lavender owl like this is made for bedtime — here is how to burn it evenly, or warm it under a lamp so the scent drifts while you wind down.

The first burn

Let the wax melt right across to the edge of the container before you put it out. A first burn that stops short leaves a ring of wax that the flame then tunnels into, wasting the candle.

Trim the wick

Before every burn, trim the wick to about 5 mm. A short wick burns cleanly; a long one smokes and blackens the glass.

Put it out gently

Use a snuffer or dip the wick into the pool, and never blow hard — it throws soot and splashes hot wax.
