How to use a candle warmer lamp: a simple step-by-step guide
Using a candle warmer lamp is easy. Place it, take the lid off, centre the jar and switch on. These steps get you the best scent and the longest-lasting candle.
Step by step
- Choose a safe spot. A flat, stable, heat-resistant surface, away from curtains, paper and anything that hangs over the shade.
- Check the bulb. It should be a GU10 halogen of the wattage your lamp recommends. Never go above the maximum.
- Take the lid off the candle. Leave the wick untrimmed and unlit.
- Centre the jar. The bulb should shine across the whole surface so the wax softens evenly.
- Set the height. If your lamp has an adjustable arm, follow its instructions. As a rule, closer warms faster and farther is gentler.
- Switch on and set the dimmer and timer. Give it ten to twenty minutes before you judge the scent.
- Turn the dimmer down once the room smells right. You will use less power and get a softer glow.
- Switch off and cover. Let the wax cool and put the lid back on to keep the fragrance in.
Tips for a stronger scent
- Choose a candle with a wide, open jar. A wider surface releases more scent. See the best candles for a warmer lamp.
- Warm a cold room for a little longer.
- Re-centre the jar now and then.
- Give a new candle its first session of two to four hours to build up a soft pool.
Safe use
- Do not leave it on while you are out or asleep. Use the timer.
- Let the bulb and shade cool before touching them.
- Keep the cable tidy and out of reach of pets and children.
